The official lyric video for 'Keep Moving Forward'
Called my dad, front seat of the parked car
Rain hard on the windshield, we’d been here before
White knuckles ‘round the steering wheel as I had drove and cried
I got there wanting to go home not go inside
Bags heavy in the back, another scouting tour
Phone steady in my hand, he would answer, I was sure
Dad? I don’t wanna go in, not today
He said don’t worry kid, you’re gonna be okay
He said, You’re gonna be fine
You’re gonna be more
There’s a great big world that’s full of things
you don’t know you’re looking for
When you get knocked down
Get up, ask for more
Get your feet in line and one step at a time
you keep moving forward
So I made my way across that crowded parking lot
I put on my best smile, it took everything I’d got
And I wasn’t at my best but I did okay
And I helped more than one person that stormy day
I said,
You’re gonna be fine
You’re gonna be more
There’s a great big world that’s full of things
you don’t know you’re looking for
When you get knocked down
Get up, ask for more
Get your feet in line and one step at a time
you keep moving
Forward past the things that you can’t see are bricks not walls
Forward ‘till you see what it really means to have it all
You’re gonna be fine
You’re gonna be more
There’s a great big world that’s full of things
you don’t know you’re looking for
When you get knocked down
Get up, ask for more
Get your feet in line and one step at a time
you keep moving forward
You keep moving forward
Get your feet in line and one step at a time
You keep moving forward
I wrote this song about a real conversation I had with my dad at a time when I was feeling really stuck in my life. I was on the road presenting at college nights across British Columbia and I was tired. I knew I wanted to be doing something else and was sad I wasn’t. I just wanted to go home. Some of the best lessons my dad ever taught me were on that phone call: Even if I’m not feeling my best, I can still help another person. That the lessons I am learning now will become the building blocks of my life, even if I can’t see it yet. And the power of hope—knowing that things won’t always be like this and you can keep moving forward.
I hope it encourages you, wherever you are and whatever you're working on. You've got this.
