I pronounce my name Day-na. Schin-del (shin-dell), rhymes with bell.
I grew up taking dance lessons, which led to musical theatre, which led to acting, singing anthems, and theatre. I’ve studied with some great teachers and am a graduate of Canada’s National Voice Intensive led by David Smuckler. I love exploring the world through a character and the connection that happens when actors are in a scene. To have that connection with audiences as myself, through my own work is, is something different entirely. It is so much move vulnerable being up there as myself – not through the lens of a character or interpreting someone else’s words – but as myself, sharing authentic stories from my own life. Because it’s so personal, it means that much more when someone tells me they like my work.
Super tall! 6’0!
I grew up in and around Vancouver, Canada. It’s got the city, suburbs, and nature all rolled into one. In summertime I would go to a wilderness camp and my dad and I would drive to the farm he grew up on in Saskatchewan.
I studied English Literature & Psychology at the University of British Columbia where I hosted karaoke nights at the campus pub. I was awarded a national scholarship by W. Garfield Weston Scholarships through the Loran Scholars Foundation for character, leadership, and service.
I love the storytelling of country music. I love the heart of country music. How we write about life, the good times, the bad times, and everything in between. When I started writing songs, they just came out country! Maybe because my dad and I listened to old country and rock and roll when we drove to the farm in summers?
I’ve written in all genres but if I only get to do this once, it’s got to be country.
